“Why go on vacation once a year when you can make your yard feel like you’re on vacation all year round?”
Ok picture this: you’re in your backyard on a warm summer evening, lounging on a plush outdoor couch. Your friends are with you, complimenting the delicious meal you just prepared in your outdoor kitchen. There are no bugs around because you have a fire going in your fire pit, which is also keeping everyone comfortably warm, even after the sun is down.
We all know nothing beats a warm summer evening on the patio in Calgary, so why not set up your yard to get the most enjoyment out of your outdoor space. Here are two simple ways we can help landscape your dream yard into a reality:
Create a “Staycation” Spot
The first thing people usually think about when creating a livable space in their backyard is a fire feature. There is a reason for that: fire features draw people outside and keep them outside. Fire features are very versatile, and you can bet we will help you find the option which best suits your desired function. From a garden fireplace or fire-pit, to a flame-filled bowl, table, or trough, we will help design your outdoor space to include whichever fire feature best suits your desired look and function.
Although our summer season in Calgary is often much shorter than we’d like, that doesn’t stop us from making the most out of the time we get! An outdoor kitchen is a great way to spend more time outside on those warm summer evenings. The most important part of installing an outdoor kitchen is planning. Yes, you want your kitchen to be visually beautiful, but you’re never going to use it if it’s not functional. Luckily, we have constructed A LOT of outdoor kitchens and know exactly how to design your kitchen, so you’ll love using it.
Additional tips for your staycation spot: outdoor/waterproof speakers, high-quality outdoor furniture (you will actually want to spend time on), proper lighting for the outdoor space when it gets dark.
Creating Private or Secluded Places
Creating a secluded space for reading, meditating, or just simply relaxing can add an entirely new purpose to your yard. Having a place to sit privately and decompress should be a priority when designing a functional yard. Here are some ways we can create a tranquil space for you to enjoy:
- -Provide just enough seating for two
- -Use tall narrow plants as a privacy screen
- -Use a pergola to create a sense of overhead enclosure
- -Include a simple water feature
- -Surround the space with lush plants
- -Build a wall to separate a small area from the rest of the garden
We have found a lot of yards in Calgary which aren’t utilizing space to the fullest potential. This drives our motivation to design not only beautiful but functional yards to get more Calgarians outside and enjoying their space during the best season of the year – summer!
